The process is the proof.
The collaboration, the feedback, the months before anything official exists. None of it has ever had a home. Every platform built for showing your work was built for the output: the portfolio, the finished thing, the credential. Never what happened before it.
That's the part that proves who you actually are.
Not what got made. How it got made, and with whom.
That's always been true. AI only sharpens it. When anyone can generate the output in minutes, the one thing that can't be fabricated is the actual thread of work: who you talked to, what you built together, what they said about it afterward. The process is the differentiator now.
Provenance is where that work lives. Find a project in progress (a builder looking for feedback, a team forming around an idea) and contribute something real. If it changes what they are building, they write down what you did and you confirm it. That becomes a Record: dated, permanent, and owned by you both. Not a post. Not a review. A Record.
You don't talk yourself up here. You do the work, and someone else says so.
How to read one
An example, so every part can be named. Real ones look exactly like this.

Maya tried the beta for an afternoon and asked the question we had stopped being able to hear: why do you need six pieces of information before you show anyone what the product actually does? She suggested asking for one and moving the rest behind the first screen. We shipped it that week. Sign-ups held, and the drop-off we had lived with for months halved.

- When it was confirmed, not when the work happened. The date a Record carries is the date both people agreed.
- Contribution
- What kind of work it was. This one is a contribution: work Maya O. did on someone else's project.
- Recorded
- The seal. It appears only after both people have agreed, and it is the only mark on Provenance that means more than someone saying so.
- Maya O. · Ilse B.
- Both people. It takes two of you: neither person can put one here alone, and neither can quietly undo it afterwards. If someone later deletes their profile their name stops showing, but the Record itself stays.
- The account
- Written by Ilse B., about Maya O.. That is the whole difference between this and a profile you fill in yourself.
What doesn't become one
Most of what happens here never becomes a Record, and that is the point. A Record marks work that changed something real: the thinking, the strategy, the product itself. Turning up, being agreeable, leaving a comment. None of that earns one.
A system that recorded everything would be worth exactly as much as a system that recorded nothing.
